Authentication

What is authentication and how is it different than transcription? Essentially authentication is polishing an already produced transcript to make sure it is as accurate as possible. We’re looking to fill the gap between 99% accurate and 100% accurate. While we’ll never guarantee 100% accuracy, we like to come as close as we can.

During the authentication process, a member of our team does a word for word listen of the audio in comparison to the transcript to verify what has been transcribed. Specifically, they are looking at:

  • Is what was spoken what was transcribed?
  • Does what was transcribed conform to the client guidelines? (e.g. verbatim level, style, time codes, false starts, etc.)
  • Has terminology been accurately researched?

They are also checking all transcribed guesses and inaudibles.

Authentication is not:

  • An indication that something is wrong with the transcript.
  • Uniform. Each transcript, transcriptionist, and project is unique.
  • A waste of time.

The reasons that authentication is requested by a client vary, and can include:

  • The original transcript was produced by AI.
  • The audio is archival.
  • The speakers are elderly or are heavily accented.
  • The audio contains a significant amount of crosstalk.
  • Your time is valuable and better spent on other areas of your business.
  • All of the above!
